11:30 am: Laura Turlington
Laura is the co-founder of One Community Programs and a teacher in the lineage of don Miguel Ruiz, author of The Four Agreements® and Rita Rivera Fox. Laura combines this lineage with elemental traditions to guide people in workshops and journeys to explore and manifest their heart’s desire. Laura also teaches at Yale University and is the principal of Pirie Turlington Architects where she engages with all scales of the built environment. She is dedicated to reflecting unity of the spiritual and the everyday, and to supporting the evolution of humanity in to an era of balance and unity.
12:15 pm: Bob Wall — Creating Model Sustainable Communities in Connecticut
More than eighty cities and towns throughout the state have made a commitment to obtain 20 percent of the electricity for municipal buildings from clean renewable energy sources – such as wind and solar - by the year 2010. Now, those towns will also strive to reduce their overall energy consumption by 10 percent and address transportation, land, and water and food issues in an effort to reduce their reliance on finite resources and emissions that contribute to global warming. This workshop will provide you with tools to help place your community on the path to cleaner air, better health and a sustainable economic future.
1:00 pm: Brendan Hanrahan — Promise of Community Based Environmental Management in CT
Today there are some 600 community-based groups engaged with environmental management in Connecticut, more than 3 for each of the state’s 169 municipalities. Local groups often represent unique knowledge and expertise—and many play key roles in filling gaps in government services. This talk examines opportunities for local groups to effect positive change on environmental issues affecting our communities—and hurdles in their paths to success. Research shows how community-based efforts can succeed where top-down regulatory approaches fail, but are too often hobbled by familiar barriers.Mr. Hanrahan will discuss how the web-resource he developed, CT EarthNet, is designed to assist community-based initiatives overcome obstacles, facilitate communication and foster collaboration in the pursuit of shared goals.
1:45 pm: Curt Johnson — Together, how we are getting real results in protecting our state’s environment
Using some inspirational examples, Curt will share the impressive results that thousands of ordinary citizens speaking with one voice have had in protecting our water, crucial watershed lands and fighting global warming in our area and Long Island Sound, by investing a few hours a year with the Connecticut Fund for the Environment and our program, Save the Sound.
2:30 pm: Gus Greenleaf — Biofuels in CT
As a leader in the Biofuel sector, Gus shares his knowledge regarding the use of biofuel as an important part of a green and sustainable future. He will lead a discussion on the status of Biofuel in our state, its production, use and distribution.
3:15 pm: Elise Cusano — Think Green, Eat Local: Connecting Communities through Farmers' Markets
Farmers' markets in Connecticut have grown exponentially in number over the past year. With over 20 new farmers' markets in 2008, there are now a total of 114 in the state! Join Elise Cusano, manager of the Edgewood Park Farmers' Market for a discussion about City Farmers' Markets and the direct positive impact that farmers' markets have on local farms, local community and the environment. City Seed, a non-profit based in New Haven, Connecticut, seeks to engage the community in growing an equitable local food system that promotes economic development, community development and sustainable agriculture. It operates a vibrant network of 4 farmers' markets in New Haven and mission-driven programs that aim to increase community access to local, healthy food and promote farm viability.

and respect for these unsung heroes.

An interactive demonstration of the alchemy of composting your food and lawn waste
into "black gold". Learn the basics of bins, bugs and techniques and begin your own
compost pile today.

When we are in balance as individuals, we will extend that balance to our
